Appaloosa Horse for Sale

Those who love Appaloosa horses so much that they feel they have no choice but to acquire one, must know for certain what makes a good Appaloosa Horse for Sale. Most people are attracted by the animal’s unique spotted coat color, but some species do not have spots, and this is no drawback. The best way to guarantee protection from disappointment when purchasing a horse is to buy from a reputable and responsible Appaloosa breeder.

There are a number of must-knows about the breed for potential Appaloosa owners and would-be breeders. There are five accepted breed types, each bearing a certain coat color pattern: Snowflake, Leopard, Marble, Blanket and Frost. Snowflake Appaloosas have white spots over dark background, while Leopard-colored horses feature black spots over white. Marbles are white speckled with dark. Frost is literally the negative of the Marble. Blanket Appaloosas have white over the hips and loins, sometimes extending to the neck. There are usually dark spots over the white, but some species are completely spotless. There is one more feature any potential buyer should bear in mind when examining an Appaloosa Horse for Sale and that is the white sclera around the iris.

Appaloosa horses are famous for their sweet and friendly disposition. They are also very intelligent and eager to perform, which makes them excellent conformation horses. They are capable of various activities, such as rodeo riding, racing, barrel racing, and so forth. Appaloosa horses are also great ranch workers. They are strong, agile and enduring, which is due to the influence of the American Quarter horse. The Appaloosa horse has the grace of the Arabian and the dignity of the Thoroughbred, the breeds that have also been instrumental in rehabilitation of the Appaloosa breed. Appaloosa Horses for Sale presented by good breeders have a strictly defined genetic makeup.

The Appaloosa breed originated in the Northwest of America in a remote area that was once inhabited by Nez Perce Indian tribesmen. It was them who actually bred this beautiful horse, and they purified their stock by trading away poorer species. The horse was named “Appaloosa” after the Palouse River flowing across the area. Nez Perce people were also dashing horse riders, and their mastery of the equine breeding art placed them above all other tribes on the continent. The tribe was defeated, and the stock diluted during the Nez Perce war in the 1870s, and the breed fell into neglect for decades. The Appaloosa horse club was established in 1938, and then the breed took its second wind. Each and every breeder of today having an Appaloosa Horse for Sale must be a member of a major breed club, which guarantees the quality of his or her stock.
